Check your phone
Pick your phone's brand and model. You'll get a clear answer, plus how to double-check in your settings.
Your phone must be carrier-unlocked
Phones bought from a mobile network are sometimes locked to it. If yours is, ask your network to unlock it before you travel.
How to check in your settings
iPhone
- Open Settings, then Mobile Data (or Cellular).
- If you see Add eSIM or Add Data Plan, your iPhone supports eSIM.
- To check it's unlocked: Settings, General, About. Next to Carrier Lock it should say No SIM restrictions.
Android
- Open Settings and search for “eSIM”.
- On Pixel: Network & internet, then SIMs. On Samsung: Connections, then SIM manager.
- If you see an option to add an eSIM or download a SIM, your phone supports it.
On most phones you can also dial *#06#. If you see an EID number, your phone supports eSIM.
This list is a guide based on manufacturer information. Your phone's settings are the final word.
